Family Time

Yesterday evening, we were out for a walk.  I was wearing the baby, and my husband was pushing Vijay in the stroller.  We were cruising along when he reached out and took my hand, taking both of us by surprise.  I can't remember the last time my husband and I held hands, and not for lack of wanting.  One of us is always holding one of the boys, or pushing a stroller, or digging for snacks, books, wipes or diapers.  Sometimes we might graze hands while passing the babies back and forth..but that's usually the extent of it.  During this intense time, there is no such thing as 'me time' and there is no such thing as 'us time.'  In fact, we celebrated our five year anniversary this week, and we barely had a moment to celebrate.  I'll be honest...I miss my husband.  I miss spending time alone with him, indulging in adult conversation and a good bottle of wine.

And yet, we both love family time.  We adore these busy boys of ours, one constantly running, skipping and jumping, the other starting to show us more of his precious little personality.  The month ahead is going to be a busy one, full of fun and family.  Today, we head to Vermont for a little getaway- a farm stay to be precise.  I can't wait to collect eggs, milk cows, and tend the garden with the boys.  Next week, I head to the fall session of Squam to teach. I'll be taking along my nursing babe (and my amazing friend Beth, who is going to help babysit!).  It should be an adventure, to say the least!  The day after returning from Squam, we head to Michigan to see my family.

Like I said...busy, but full of family and fun!  I'm hoping we can sneak in a few more hand-holding moments while we're at it...!

(wearing my boys close to my heart thanks to my new necklace from lisa leonard...love it!)

Hello Christine
Enjoy your farm break, a change of scene always helps to recharge the batteries. Good luck with the teaching, I'm sure it'll be wonderful. And what a lovely way to finish off with a visit to family.

Yes, I understand completely. Time with your honey will become more apparent. Later you may even schedule time, as in date night, but it works...it's possible. You are doing a great job with it all! The being strong and yet asking for help Christine. That is the best we can all do. Knowing that parenting is hard and heart-warming within seconds of each other helps us all keep our sense of humor. Some days I can see the humor in it all more than others...but I wouldn't trade it. It's rich and messy and just life. Love your new necklace. Have a lovely time at Squam, wish I were there, and seeing your family. Give your mama a squeeze for me!
