Worth It

We returned from Chicago on an evening flight, and as we began our descent, I looked out the window and saw the most glorious sunset.  I panicked- my camera was in the overhead compartment, and I was seated at the window, with Little Vijay on my lap, my husband in the middle and a crabby, sour-faced man in the aisle seat.
And I am talking seriously crabby- like when we got on the plane and sat down next to him, he looked at the baby and smirked, "Oh great, lucky me."  And not with an ounce of humor.  What....?????  You are welcome to think that, and I will even admit to having those same feelings on flights where I am seated next to a baby, but you NEVER, EVER say it out loud, especially not to the parents of said baby, who are already exhausted and nervous for the 2 1/2 confined hours ahead.
But in the end, I figured that Little Vijay had been on his very best behavior for (most of) the flight, and I deserved a little favor, so I asked crabby man to grab my camera bag.  I am so glad that I did.

Gorgeous photographs! Glad that you were bold enough to ask the grump to grab your camera!

I had a similar experience when travelling for Christmas with my 5 week old son. The woman who was seated with my husband, the baby and I insisted on being moved! So devastating when you are already nervous about the flight with the baby. My small (but ungenerous) joy? She was seated in front of a 3 year old who howled and hung off the back of her seat for the entire 4 hour flight, while my son slept peacefully. Sometimes things just work out as they should... ;)
