It's All Coming Together

Most days, I feel like I am treading water, desperately trying to keep afloat, juggling endless chores, errands, emails, and work to-do's, all while caring for my baby.  But there are those days where everything comes together in perfect harmony, and yesterday was one of those days.  My husband took Vijay to work with him in the morning, to show him off to his colleagues, and to give me a chance to shower and eat breakfast in peace.  When they got home, we played for a little bit, and then I put him down for a nap.
My babysitter arrived shortly after, and I jumped in my car and headed to the Mens' Maximum Security Prison to write a story on their new garden project.  I am covering the story for one of my favorite publications, Edible Rhody, and am lucky enough to be both writing and photographing the story.  It was the most inspiring subjects I have covered in a long time.  I had a moment, while interviewing an inmate, where I thought to myself, "This is it, you've done it.  You have accomplished what you set out to do...write about things that matter to you, exciting, inspiring, thrilling stories that matter."

I arrived home on an adrenaline high, and settled in to an afternoon of playground duty and a walk through campus.  Once Vijay was tucked in, after a warm bath and homemade dinner, it occurred to me that for this one day, that balance between working and being a mom struck a perfect equilibrium...and it felt oh-so-good.

beautiful beautiful beautiful! what a feeling of satisfaction, of contentment-- we all know the days where it doesn't come together like this so it is extra sweet to savor one that feels so true, so right.

Congratulations on feeling that sense of accomplishment and satisfaction! I hope to get to "This is it" someday, too.

i cannot wait to read that story -- we're moving to new bedford and i dream of gardens where ruins once were...and your sweet chai babe is adorable -- got a kick out of him with your mom in the lake that first day at squam...
