Fragility

Life moves at such a fast pace, but there are days that are meant for slowing down, for remembering and for being thankful.  Yesterday was one of those days.  We sat outside on a patch of earth, appreciating the warmth of the fall sun, just the three of us, our little family.  We felt immensely fragile and immensely thankful.  Together... we do not take that lightly...we do not take that for granted.

In the midst of remembering, there are also the pressing issues of today.  While most of us have recovered from Irene, there is a neighboring state that is still suffering.  It just so happens that Waitsfield, Vermont- the town that welcomed me with open arms during my book writing adventures- was hit incredibly hard by the storm.  It absolutely breaks my heart to think of their charming Main Street completely underwater, their historic covered bridges collapsed and swept away.  It also breaks my heart to think of the farmers- those hardworking, innovative farmers- who have lost their entire late summer, fall and winter crops.  Just like that- their livelihood is gone.  Waitsfield- and really, all of Vermont- is such a magical place, and they need our help.

Please visit Love Vermont for a great list of places to donate.  I donated to the Mad River Valley Community Fund.  If you feel so inclined, lend this incredible place a helping hand.  There will come a time when we all feel our fragility...when we could all use a helping hand.
