A Quick Escape
Before the craziness of this week began, I took a lovely coastal day trip with Nina to do a bit of exploring. A hefty dose of bravery was needed in order to pull off a full day trip with the little guy in tow...but we managed, and had a wonderful time. The key is flexibility- quick diaper changes in the trunk of the car, breastfeeding in the back seat (while praying that the windows are tinted enough), and longer-than-planned drives to facilitate nap time.
Although it was raining off-and-on, we didn't mind. It added an "English countryside" feel to the area, and everything seemed even more lush, and verdant, in the fog.
We began the day in Tiverton Four Corners, poking around the perfectly charming shops, especially enjoying Rummage, Gallery 4, The Cottage at Four Corners and Sayles Livingston floral studio.
We even had a chance to watch jeweler Tiffany Peay work on a few of her new pieces.
We ended up at Provender, where we indulged in their delicious sandwiches, and a thick slice of chocolate buttermilk cake.
We finished the afternoon with a drive through the vineyards and farmland, stopping only to catch bits and pieces on 'film,' including the gorgeous stone walls that dominate the landscape.
We finished up our tour with a stop at Westport Harbor, where we were hoping to watch the fisherman bring in their catch of the day. It must have been a quiet day at sea...for there was not a soul to be found on the docks, which was fine by me, for it was time to head home. With my sleeping baby in the car, I hugged my travel companion goodbye and hit the road. I can't wait to explore more of the FarmCoast region...perhaps on a sunny day next time!
*it's always fun to see how someone else captures your day together...that has to be one of my favorite things about traveling with a fellow blogger!

I love this post! i agree, seeing you capture it is so much fun.
Looks like a fun day exploring some of my favorite places. I'm looking forward to more adventures with you in the 'hood!
wow! this area looks so utterly gorgeous! i think i'll have to add it to my places to visit!
when i first had my little boy, we didn't hesitate to take him everywhere. i can't count the amount of people i made blush with my open-air breast-feeding. i just didn't care!
oh oh oh oh oh
OH MY GOD if you could hear me squealing over here (oops, actually typed "squalling" in my haste-- a baby Vijay inspired slip? hmmm)
CANNOT WAIT. xo, E
I'm glad you had such a nice day and everything worked out with the baby. When my girls were little I wouldn't have dared go on a day long excursion like that!
Yes, maybe next time the sun will shine ; )
Tiverton is so beautiful.
I love those stone walls and spring flowers.
Congratulations on your book. I am excited to buy it as a gift for a friend I have living on the East coast.
This looks gorgeous. And I love reading about your adventures from two perspectives--you and Nina complement each other so well.
