Crossing Cultures

I feel a bit funny posting all of my recent appearances around the web...it's a bit like being that breathless kid, eager to tell mom about her big day. "And then I went to school, and then I went to the playground, and then I went back to school, and then, and then, and then..." It is also a bit revealing....take a look around our home, now take a look at the inner-workings of our marriage. What's next? Full body shots of me prancing around in a bikini? I will keep those to myself, I promise...you have to draw the line somewhere!

The Happy Couple
So, keeping all of that in mind, this will be short and sweet. I have written an essay for Skirt! magazine's February "All About Love" issue. It is now up on their website, as well. It is called "Crossing Cultures," and it explores some of the trials of being in an intercultural marriage.

I think my favorite part is the the title, with the peacock hanging out inside the 'O'...if I had an 'O' anywhere in my name, I think I would be inclined to start drawing in a peacock, which would make signing checks and official paperwork a hassle, but come on, how cool?!

Okay, that's it, no more show and tell for the rest of the week...that's a promise!

Sometimes it's ok to toot your own horn. I loved the piece you wrote and I'm sure your husband fell in love with you just a little bit more when you reached out to his mother that way.

I think it's wonderful that you share your articles on the blog. Please keep doing it!

With a multicultural marriage myself, I really enjoyed this last piece and could relate to many of the ups and downs.

Great work!

P.S. I'm sitting in a room with bright yellow walls and bright turquoise curtains and think your home and its vivid colors are just lovely. :)

I enjoyed your article on inter racial marriage. I just want to comment that not all Indian parents or in-laws are demanding or possessive of their sons :) I have heard too many such incidents which leads people to think most Indian MILs are like that but fortunately not! I am lucky to have a very kind, helpful and modern MIL who has done more for me than I have for here! She flew 10,000 miles from India just to help me with the baby and never asked for anything. I am very lucky I think. I am glad that you got to know your MIL a bit more and she got to see the real you who sounds kind and understanding and wants to be appreciated as we all do! You have a very interesting blog and I love your writing style.
