Lilla Rogers Burst of Color

I am going to hold off posting the foreign mags until tomorrow because I have a fun little sneak peek to show you. I had the pleasure of meeting Lilla Rogers of Lilla Rogers Studio today. Besides Lilla being a lovely person, her office/studio was so colorful and inspirational, I had to snap a few shots. I love the idea of multi-colored lanterns adorning the ceiling and brightly painted shelves to jazz up storage spaces. I think she should have entered Apartment Therapy's Fall Colors Contest! Make sure to click over and check out the loads of talented artists she represents, as well as the up-to-date blog of all Lilla Roger Studio news!

Even her garage door is decked out in color!

Up to my Ears in Ears

I know...bad post title, I just couldn't help it! I wanted to thank all of you for your kind comments yesterday...and Kelly, I will be talking more about the meaning of wedding elephants on Monday, November 3rd when my shop opens, so stay tuned for that post! I love what an encouraging group of readers I have here!
Anyway, I am quickly learning the ins and outs of creating softies to sell and the key is BATCHES. I started by making one elephant at a time and I wouldn't start the next one until the last one was complete. However, I have quickly learned that the best way to do it is in batches...so today is an EARS day. Above is my little pile of ears, each one with a found upholstery fabric lining! One more little side note: I can hardly believe it, but my humble abode has made it to the next round of Apartment Therapy's Fall Colors Contest!! An Unexpected Turn of Events

When I started blogging this summer, I could never have imagined all the places that it would take me. I was in a new city with no job and few friends. Because of my blog, I have met so many wonderful, creative people in the Providence community, many who have become great friends. I have had a chance to write for and be featured on blogs that I adore, including Design*Sponge and Apartment Therapy. I also found my creative voice, which I always knew was there, but had been pushed aside due to stress, job unhappiness and just general unrest. When I started Lavender and Limes, I figured that maybe, if I was lucky, my mom and a few friends and relatives would tune in each day. Now I find myself with hundreds of loyal readers! Each of you brighten my day and I thank you for that. I am so grateful for your kindness and encouraging words.

Once I found my blogging voice, it quickly led me down a path that I never expected. Writing. I have started writing freelance pieces for a variety of publications and I am just loving every minute of it. Most recently, I was able to interview the new RISD president, John Maeda, for East Side Monthly. I never would have guessed it...me...writing...2500 words!!! I now have a few articles lined up for bigger, national magazines and I could not be any more excited by it all. I love the research that goes in to each piece, the opinions that I get to slip in and the thrill of seeing my work in print! In addition, I have been secretly working on a little collection of handmade soft sculptures that I will be selling online. My store will be launching next Monday (November 3rd) with a limited number of these little Indian wedding elephants, handmade, right down to the beadwork. I am super excited to get your feedback and thoughts and to see if anyone will be interested in my handywork! I have so much to do before then...product shots to take, elephants to stitch, shop designs to upload...so my posting might be a bit light this week. But please know how much I appreciate you stopping by!

I could never have imagined how content and fulfilled I could be working for myself, spending my days creating, writing and imagining! I have you to thank for it...I hope you stay tuned!

Ribbon Board Tutorial

I am going to wrap-up today's posting with a fun little tutorial. I am redoing my craft area in our bedroom and this was one of my first projects in the process. I hope you find it helpful!

Supplies:
Pre-made canvas
Batting and fabric cut to fit the size of the canvas, plus a bit extra to fit around the side and back
Staple gun and staples
Ribbon
Decorative brads
Paper piercer
Scissors
Step One: Place the canvas on top of the batting and fabric. The side of the fabric that you want showing should be face down. Make sure that you have enough of an edge to wrap around the side and back of the canvas.
Step Two: Using your staple gun, staple the fabric and batting to the canvas. Do this on all four side, tucking in the corners as seen below.
Step Three: When you are finished stapling, you can cut away the excess fabric and batting, just don't cut too close to the staples. Leave at least 1/2 inch between the staples and the fabric edge.
Step Four: Begin placing your ribbon in the corner, stapling the ribbon to the back edge of the canvas once it is correctly in place. Continue placing the ribbon in a criss-cross pattern across the board, securing each end with a staple.
Step Five: At each ribbon intersection, pierce through all the fabric layers (canvas, batting, fabric) with your paper-piercer and insert a brad. Secure the brad on the backside of the canvas.
Ta-da...you have completed your ribbon board! If you want to hang your board, simply hammer a saw-tooth hook to the backside. Now for the fun part...filling your ribbon board with inspirations, clippings and other little treasures!I hope this was a clear and easy-to-follow tutorial! Please comment below with any questions or clarifications and I will make sure to respond quickly!

100 Ideen Wohnen

This was a magazine that I picked up in Austria and I am guessing that the title is something like 100 Ideas?! Anyway, I just loved the following party decorating story. Wouldn't this be so cute for a baby or wedding shower!? By the way, if you click on the pages, they will enlarge so you can get a better view since the scan quality is not the best in the smaller size!
